The problem with making a SupermanВ game is that he's just too powerful in a variety of different ways to come up with interesting challenges without going full Dragon Ball ZВ and losing the essence of the character. The SupermanВ license hasn't been particularly successful in the video game world, barring crossover DC fighting games (like the InjusticeВ series). The developers obviously saw just how easy it was to defeat enemies with the heat vision, but instead of designing different character behaviors or other gameplay elements to discourage gamers in playing this way, they simply 'award' players who use up-close combat by rating their progress.if they refrain from heat vision, they'll score three Superman logos at the end of the level, and if all levels are complete with three logos, one more level opens up. But they take only a couple hits once this 'special technique' is learned, so the challenge is only temporary. The boss battles are really the only thing that puts up a challenge, because the designers actually require gamers to off them with a combination of special techniques. The game is incredibly unbalanced that players can get through about 75% of the game without throwing a punch most of the enemies can be downed with the long-distance heat vision that never runs out. You'd think that with all these features the designers could put together an interesting action game with ideas that would strategically put his abilities to use. The game definitely offers a large amount of moves for the big lug Superman can fly and hover around the levels, or run at a slow or fast jog, punch or shoulder-attack enemies, as well as blast heat vision or cold breath at the attacking foes. It's hard to tell if the design had always intended to be the way it ended up, but it definitely doesn't feel balanced or complete. This game was originally in development at Crawfish Interactive before the team closed its doors in November 2002 the project was then picked up and completed by Mistic Software. Just know that Metropolis is being run amok by bad guys, and it's up to Superman to hit the streets to wipe out the threat. The storyline is dreadfully dull, especially since the cutscenes are so full of slowly crawling text that cannot be sped up (or skipped altogether). Superman: Countdown to Apokolips is a precursor to the events that happen in the GameCube and PlayStation 2 versions of Infogrames' Superman: Shadow of Apokolips. Infogrames' try isn't a bad one even though Superman is an incredibly versatile superhero, this Superman game is simply a mediocre action game with not a whole lot of things to do. The Game Boy Advance game, Superman: Countdown to Apokolips, is the second time the Man of Steel's hit the handheld system (the first was in Midway's Justice League), and again, game designers can't seem to get it right when it comes to recreating the Superman experience in a game design. The big guy's only got one weakness beyond Kryptonite: developers who try to create videogames based upon his adventures.
